The Briarcliff Barracudas clinched the Fall 2012 WYSL GU13 D4 Division title with a decisive 6-1 win over visiting Yonkers United on Sunday, November 18th at Briarcliff's Club field. The Barracudas, coached and trained by 3x State Champion Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Owen Scully, finished the season with 7 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie and an impressive 26 goal differential against its opponents. Goalkeeper Adrianna Romano played another strong game allowing just one goal off a corner kick (one of only 6 goals allowed all season including 5 shutouts with backup Keeper Maya Goldheim). The Barracudas defense (Ava Greco, Georgia Burkard, Julia Ventura and Goldheim) played aggressively and thwarted several scoring opportunities (in addition to strong corner kicks by Burkard and direct kicks by Greco). The midfield (Victoria Mattina, Morgan Chapman, Hannah Siesel, Julia Gottlieb) strengthened the defensive play and transitioned the ball well to the offense. The offensive players (Chrissy Barrett, Carolyn Santangelo, Taylor Hudzik, Antonia Blanchett, and Emma Wickey) kept pressure on Yonkers' outstanding goaltender all game. Goals were scored by Chapman(2), Santangelo(2), Blanchett and Greco. The team missed midfielder Francesca Paone, who was in Los Angeles attending the American Music Awards. Assistant coaches Nikki Siesel, Lou Santangelo and Jonathan Gottlieb were proud of the players' commitment, effort and execution throughout the season.
